Journey That Never Happened
A room, an old carpet, a sun that refuses to set, and a realm built from unfinished dreams.

Feeling frozen and cramped, I woke up and to my surprise I had slept on an old carpet in a large room that was unfamiliar. Thanks to the clock in the corner of the room I realised that it was 6.55 pm with the sun still not set. I walked towards a large window at the other end of the room and saw a thick blanket of snow outside. I had never seen or been to this location ever before in my life and wondered how and why I was here. With too many thoughts in my mind, I tried to recall the events leading up to this mysterious place, but my memory was a blank canvas. The last thing I could remember was going to bed in my own room, in my own home, miles away from this unfamiliar setting. As I stood there, bewildered and disoriented, the realization of my predicament sunk in. I was lost in a place that seemed to be frozen in time, where the sun refused to set and the snow-covered landscape stretched endlessly. But how did I end up here? And why was I here?
Seeking answers, I ventured out of the room and explored the rest of the peculiar dwelling. The architecture and decor were like nothing I had ever encountered before – a blend of ancient and modern styles that gave the place an eerie, otherworldly vibe. The hallways seemed to twist and turn in strange ways, leading me to dead ends and obscure rooms. I was alone, with no signs of life or any clues as to what had happened. As I roamed through the labyrinthine halls, a strange symbol caught my eye – a mysterious emblem etched into the walls and doors. It felt familiar, yet I couldn’t place it. It was as if my mind was trying to grasp at distant memories that were just out of reach. As the day progressed, the sun remained stubbornly fixed on the horizon. Time seemed to be suspended, adding to my growing sense of unease. I knew I needed to find a way out, back to my world, my reality. But it felt as though the more I tried to escape, the deeper I delved into this enigmatic realm.
During my exploration, I stumbled upon an old library filled with dusty books and ancient scrolls. Hoping to find some answers, I immersed myself in the knowledge contained within those weathered pages. The more I read, the more I realized that this place was no ordinary world. It was a realm of forgotten dreams, where the desires and aspirations of people who never got to fulfill their journeys were trapped. The emblem that haunted my memories was the symbol of those unfulfilled dreams, a beacon calling me to embrace the stories that never happened. Somehow, I had become a part of this place, a traveler lost between reality and the realm of unrealized possibilities.
As the days turned into an eternity, I encountered other wanderers like me, lost souls who had stumbled into this realm from their own realities. Together, we formed an unlikely bond, finding solace in the shared confusion of our circumstances. Through countless conversations and the exchange of our stories, we began to piece together the truth. This realm was a place where the yearning for unfinished journeys manifested, a limbo for the incomplete narratives of countless lives. Each one of us had been drawn here because of some unfulfilled desire, a journey left unfinished, a dream unachieved. Driven by an inexplicable force, we united with a common purpose: to break free from this timeless captivity and return to the worlds we once knew. But escaping from a realm built upon the remnants of unrealized dreams was no simple feat. As we delved deeper into the mysteries of this place, we discovered that the key to our freedom lay within ourselves. We had to confront the reasons behind our unfulfilled desires and face the fears that had held us back. Only then could we unravel the enigma that bound us here.
In the face of uncertainty, courage emerged from deep within, and a newfound determination ignited in our hearts. United by hope and strengthened by each other’s support, we set out on a journey like no other – a journey to reclaim our realities, rewrite our stories, and embrace the future with open arms. With each step we took, the realm pushed back, throwing obstacles and illusions in our path. But we were no longer the same people who had stumbled into this place. We had grown, evolved, and learned from our shared experiences. Together, we overcame the challenges and confronted the shadows of our past.
As we neared the heart of the realm, where the source of its power resided, we faced the ultimate test of resolve. The embodiment of our unfulfilled desires confronted us, enticing us to abandon our quest and stay forever in the safety of dreams unfulfilled. But we stood firm, knowing that only by embracing the journeys that never happened could we find our way back to the real world. With a surge of collective strength, we shattered the illusion, and the realm began to crumble around us. In the final moments of our escape, we held hands, a connection forged by shared experiences and the determination to reclaim our lives. As the world collapsed, we found ourselves back where it all began – the room with the old carpet. Only this time, it felt different.
The sun had set, and the familiar darkness of night embraced the world outside the window. I released the breath I didn’t know I was holding, feeling the weight of the experiences that had shaped me in this surreal journey. I knew that I would carry those memories with me, a reminder of the resilience that lay within. The room was now bathed in a soft, calming moonlight, and a sense of peace washed over me. I knew that the journey that never happened had been real, for it had transformed me in ways I could never have imagined. And as I closed my eyes, I felt a profound sense of gratitude for the chance to embark on a journey like no other – a journey of self-discovery, courage, and the boundless possibilities of the human spirit.
